Access to Funding Databases

Duke subscribes to two online funding databases that Duke University or Duke Medical Center researchers can access via Duke computers or a Duke proxy server: Community of Science (COS) and Illinois Researcher Information Service (IRIS). The Foundation Directory Online (FDO), a search tool for locating foundation funding interests, is currently available at the Office of Research Support (ORS). The federal grants funding database, Grants.gov, provides access to information to all Federal grants.

Federal Grants (Grants.gov)
Grants.gov allows organizations to electronically find and apply for more than $400 billion in Federal grants. Grants.gov is THE single access point for over 1000 grant programs offered by all Federal grant-making agencies.

Community of Science (COS)
COS maintains a database of grants, fellowships, and other funding information from public and private, domestic and international sources. Though the name refers to holdings on science funding, this service also offers a wealth of information on social sciences, humanities & community outreach funding. Creating a COS Funding Alert is an invaluable tool for most researchers investigating their funding options. Register or update your COS profile to receive funding alerts of all new opportunities in your discipline.

Illinois Researcher Information Service (IRIS)
IRIS also maintains extensive information on funding for the sciences, social sciences, and humanities. When performing a concentrated funding search, ORS recommends performing an identical funding search in COS and IRIS. Though the databases do contain like information, they each also contain funding opportunities not listed in the other. Register or update your IRIS profile to receive funding alerts of all new opportunities in your discipline.

Foundation Directory Online (FDO)
This Foundation Center search tool is the most comprehensive available for locating the funding interests of foundations on local, regional, national, and international levels, as well as past foundation grants and grantees. This valuable tool for researching foundation interests is currently available at the ORS Funding Resource Center.
